UC Santa Barbara's Group-Evolving Agents match human-engineered AI systems at zero inference cost
Researchers at UC Santa Barbara developed Group-Evolving Agents (GEA), a framework that enables groups of AI agents to evolve together by sharing experiences. In tests on coding and software engineering tasks, GEA autonomously evolved agents that matched or exceeded human-designed frameworks.
Unlike "lone wolf" approaches where individual agents evolve independently, GEA uses a group-centric model. The framework adds zero inference cost to deploy, making it practical for enterprise use.
