UK announces 48-hour takedown rule for deepfake and revenge porn
UK PM Keir Starmer announced that tech companies must remove deepfake nudes and revenge porn within 48 hours or face fines of up to 10% of global revenue, or even be blocked in the UK. Amendments to the crime and policing bill will also regulate AI chatbots like X's Grok.
Starmer called it a "national emergency," writing that "the burden of tackling abuse must no longer fall on victims." The rules are expected to take effect by summer, with Ofcom given enforcement powers.
