A newly released proposed amended complaint in the Authors Guild lawsuit against the US government reveals how DOGE operatives decided which National Endowment for the Humanities grants to cut. They fed grant descriptions to ChatGPT and asked it to explain in under 120 characters whether grants were "related to DEI."
The grants had been approved after full application and review processes. DOGE staffers Nate Cavanaugh and Justin Fox made the determinations. The revelation adds concrete evidence to earlier reports that DOGE was using AI tools to make consequential government funding decisions.
