OpenAI raises cash burn forecast by $111B, won't turn cash-flow positive until 2030
OpenAI now expects cumulative cash burn of $665B through 2030, roughly $111B more than previously forecast. The company projects $25B in burn for 2026 and $57B for 2027, about $30B above prior estimates combined.
Adjusted gross margins have dropped to 33% versus a targeted 46%, and inference costs are set to quadruple. Training expenses alone are projected to reach $440B by decade end. Anthropic, by comparison, aims for break-even by 2028.
