US farmers and communities reject multimillion-dollar data center bids nationwide
Farmers across Kentucky, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin are turning down offers worth tens of millions for their land as tech companies scramble to build AI data centers. In New Brunswick, NJ, the city council removed data centers from permitted uses after residents protested.
Globally, 40,000 acres of powered land are projected to be needed over the next five years, double what's currently in use. One Kentucky farmer told developers: "You don't have enough to buy me out. I'm not for sale."
