SK Hynix chairman pledges to ramp AI memory chip production amid surging demand
SK Group's chairman called high-bandwidth memory a "monster chip" generating enormous profits for SK Hynix and pledged to grow production to meet the global data center buildout. The chipmaker's share price has more than quadrupled over the past year on record earnings.
The pledge comes as AI memory supply remains a critical bottleneck across the industry, with Google DeepMind's CEO recently calling it a "choke point" even for Google. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang separately hosted 30 SK Hynix HBM engineers at a birthday dinner, urging them to "supply the highest-performance HBM4 without a hitch."
