57% of US teens use AI for schoolwork, many hiding it from parents

A Pew Research Center survey of 1,458 teens found 57% use AI to search for information and 54% use it for schoolwork. Four in 10 use chatbots to summarize books and articles. One in 10 rely on AI for most or all schoolwork. A significant perception gap exists: 64% of teens report using chatbots, but only 51% of parents believe their children use the technology. Nearly three in 10 parents said they're unsure whether their teen uses AI tools at all.
