David Luan, who led Amazon's artificial general intelligence lab and its web agents effort, announced he will leave the company at the end of the week. Luan's departure comes as Amazon races to close the gap with rivals in AI capabilities. The exit adds to a pattern of senior AI talent turnover at Amazon, which has invested heavily in its own foundation models and AGI research while also partnering with Anthropic. Bloomberg separately confirmed that Luan led the company's effort to create autonomous web-browsing agents.
