Anthropic acquires Vercept, a computer-use AI startup that operated a cloud-based MacBook agent
Anthropic acquired Vercept, a Seattle-based AI startup that built Vy, a computer-use agent running in the cloud that could operate a remote Apple MacBook. Vercept emerged from the Allen Institute for AI A12 incubator. One co-founder had already departed to join Meta Superintelligence Lab for a reported $250M deal. The acquired product shuts down March 25th.
The deal is Anthropic's second agent acquisition after buying coding engine Bun in December to scale Claude Code. Computer-use capabilities enabling AI agents to interact with desktop interfaces directly are a key building block for enterprise automation and agentic AI workflows.
