Z.ai releases open-weights GLM-5.2, beats GPT-5.5 on coding at 1/6th the cost
Z.ai (formerly Zhipu) released GLM-5.2, a 753B-parameter open-weights model under MIT license with a 1M-token context, available on Hugging Face, the Z.ai API, and 20+ coding environments. Enterprise tiers start at $12.60/month, and the company claims it beats GPT-5.5 on multiple long-horizon coding benchmarks for one-sixth the cost.
The architecture uses IndexShare, reusing a single indexer across every four sparse attention layers to cut compute. Z.ai's Hong Kong-listed shares jumped over 30% Monday, and the company explicitly framed the release as an alternative for enterprises spooked by the Anthropic Fable export controls.
