Google Vids adds personal AI avatars and Gemini Omni video creation

Google updated Google Vids to let users create a custom digital avatar that looks and sounds like them from a selfie and a voice recording. It also brought its multimodal Gemini Omni model to Vids, mixing prompts and reference images to generate video, swap backgrounds, fix lighting, and support step-by-step edits without restarting. The updates push Vids beyond workplace presentations into an all-in-one video platform, positioning it against avatar tools like HeyGen and Synthesia. Google is telegraphing uses such as company updates and training videos.
