OpenAI gives ChatGPT free users unlimited text chats and adds a thinking slider for Plus
Starting next week, ChatGPT Free and Go users get unlimited text chats, with GPT-5.6 Luna replacing GPT-5.5 as their default model and a new "Think" button for harder questions. Limits stay in place for files, images, voice, and image generation. ChatGPT recently crossed 1 billion weekly users.
Plus and Pro subscribers get an updated GPT-5.6 Sol tuned for fewer factual errors on dates, numbers, sources, and rules, plus tighter formatting and a slider controlling how much thought goes into each answer. OpenAI's internal evaluation on finance, medicine, and law prompts found responses containing at least one factual error fell 68% for Sol and 62% for Luna versus GPT-5.5 Instant, figures not independently verified. The update applies only to ChatGPT, not Codex or ChatGPT Work.
